Point Grey Residence

After a recent drought killed its mature hedges this West Point Grey garden was left open to the street. so the primary goal of the project was to screen the space and coordinate views both from and into the garden and to retain the slope along the city sidewalk. The new design includes Red maples to screen the deck, Vine maples and ferns under the large Douglas fir, and a lattice fence with roses to provide privacy for the bedrooms at the basement level without blocking light. Virginia creeper on the fences offers three seasonal effects: a lush wall of foliage in the summer, fiery fall colour and a delicate pattern of dormant stems through the winter.
