The homeowners were renovating their deck, and decided to add a patio, a vegetable garden, a new retaining wall and hedge, and a new entrance from the street. The resulting design for the back garden raised the patio and lawn level at 18” below the deck which improved access to the patio from the house and increased the lawn area.
